With a focus on behavioral science for over thirty years Kelly Burris, PhD is the author of nine books on human behavior, developer of the evidence-based Subconscious Restructuring® process and CEO at Burris Institute. The SR® process has been used with exemplary results for MDD (depression), PTSD, weight loss, OCD, ADHD, smoking cessation, bipolar disorder, suicide prevention, substance abuse and relationships.
Through the course of 23 years of data collection Kelly has clearly defined behavioral epidemiology (behavior cause and control) and the term evidence-based as it pertains to behavioral health. This has enabled a clear definition of “Normal” which establishes a foundational objective for all who seek help from a counselor or coach.
Without a clear definition of “Normal” virtually anyone on the planet is open to diagnosis of a disorder and subject to endless harmful medications.
Interest in behavior science and psychology came early for Kelly at age 16 with studying every major religion and the works of all major influences in psychology. Kelly joined forces with Barry Brenner M.D. Ph.D. in 1984 and developed the first iteration of what is now the SR® process and shortly thereafter joined the Screen Actors Guild shortly thereafter to support research and development. In 1990 Kelly introduced the SR® process into psychiatric care and in 1992 implemented the first study which solidified proof of its effectiveness in depressed patients. This established the SR® model as the only evidence-based program process in mental health and the only proven process for depression. SR® will hold up to scrutiny from the mental health and medical communities every time it was used.
In 2001 Kelly developed a Certification for the SR® process and now has Workbooks for three demographics including, Subconscious Restructuring® for Adults, Subconscious Restructuring® Ages 7-17 and Subconscious Restructuring® for Warriors. The contention of the program process Kelly developed has always been, "One cannot fix it if one does not know how it works and one does not know how it works if one cannot answer the question." (What determines human behavior?) If one cannot answer this question one is simply guessing how to help oneself or anyone else.
Kelly believes it is time for all in mental health to join the scientific community and begin the process of proving what they claim to produce.
The next step in the evolution of the SR® process is to prove Subconscious Restructuring® can change ones physiology especially in regard to the physiology of the brain. Dr. Helen Mayberg of Emory University has inadvertently proven it is the software (subconscious) that effects the hardware (brain) and not the other way around as is the claim of the pharmaceutical companies. This also relates to work in brain imaging done by Dr. Arthur Toga out of UCLA on neuroplasticity that confirms what Kelly has contended for the past 22 years. It is the software (subconscious) that will not only determine your life outcome but your physiological health as well.
May of 2009: In recognition of the 25 years Kelly has committed to the development and refinement of Subconscious Restructuring®, he was granted a doctoral degree from Heritage University.
